They live and reproduce in the Genie that is installed in your septic tank and will circulate in your tank, where they begin to consume any organic materials. Your current system does not do this. The bacteria will travel with the liquid waste to the drain field and the soil around your drain field. Here is where the septic bacteria will really get some work done. They will begin to eat and digest the biomat that accumulated there. The biomat actually comes from our natural intestinal bacteria and is a thick slime. This slime is what clogs up the normal absorption of the liquid by the soil and causes backups, sometimes into your home or on your lawn. This also frequently causes unpleasant odors.
